Do I have to be a Christian to enroll at Calvary Christian School?
Yes. Our desire at Calvary Christian School is to “co-labor” with parents who seek to provide a biblically centered education for their child. Consequently, CCS requires that at least one parent in the home has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

These services are granted through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey. Certified instructors will be on the school premises to conduct these individual programs, if necessary. If your child has an existing IEP or 504 medical plan, it will be reviewed during the admissions process to evaluate whether or not the resources of CCS are able to address the needs of exceptional student learners.
Does Calvary Christian School follow Common Core Standards?
CCS does not follow Common Core standards. We follow the New Jersey core curriculum standards. These standards apply to the academic goals for each grade level and are in place to maintain academic excellence and be competitive with schools across the United States. In many academic areas the core curriculum standards coincide with the Common Core standards with a few differences. However, even though we adhere to most of the New Jersey Core Curriculum standards, there are some aspects of the standards to which we do not conform.
Whenever any standards are in opposition to the Word of God, CCS maintains our commitment to a Biblical worldview.
Is the academic curriculum in the elementary and middle school competitive with public school?
CCS has adopted both secular curricula and Christian curricula within the elementary and middle school classrooms which provides a rigorous academic education. There are areas in which our curriculum is superior to that of public schools. One such area is in fine motor skill development through script handwriting. It is our belief that students who cannot write and read script have not achieved adequate language arts skills. The inability to read documents such as The Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights is not acceptable. Along with the aspect of being literate students, use of fine motor skills in script handwriting has been shown to increase mental ability in other cognitive areas.
Mathematics is a focus for CCS. Our math program is a secular curriculum that is geared to both computation skills and logical thinking. We are continually evaluating how our students perform in relation to their peers in New Jersey and across the country. The data from our standardized tests provides adequate support of our exceptional student achievement in the area of mathematics. Some students transferring in from district schools have required additional support in order to perform at the level of the students at CCS.
Our language arts curriculum is also a secular curriculum that works in conjunction with the Fundations/Wilson phonics program. We focus on learning to read in Pre-K through second grade and then move into reading to learn in the upper elementary and middle school classrooms. Students are taught to attack words they have never seen by applying their phonics rules. They are performing exceptionally well on standardized tests which place them ahead of their peers.
Science and Social Studies are primarily Christian Curricula which provide a rigorous academic education from a Biblical worldview. Many of our students have gone on to fields in medicine, laboratory science, engineering, and political sciences.
One area in which we strive to excel is in the area of understanding origins. Students are prepared to stand for their faith by having a thorough understanding of the erroneous claims of Evolution. Our students learn about the theories behind the idea of random evolution so they can stand firm in their belief of God as Creator. They are given the scientific facts that clearly point to Creation as the only possible explanation for life as we know it.
How is the curriculum delivered to the students?
First and foremost, every academic endeavor begins with God. Teachers must not only teach from a Biblical perspective, but they must exemplify a solid walk with Jesus in all their interactions with the students. We believe that the best way to teach a student is to model the way he or she should go. A good teacher is a good example.
We strive to make learning as kinesthetic as possible. Students who are engaged with both their minds and their bodies are learning more effectively. The teachers seek to find new and exciting ways to engage the students in exploration of new concepts. We try to focus on making learning an exciting experience while imparting a love for learning that will follow a student throughout their academic journey.
